BECOME A FOSTER HOME

unnamed.jpg

Would you like to become a foster carer and prepare yourself properly in advance or are you already one and are facing new challenges and problem situations?

Working as a foster home for dogs is of great importance in animal welfare.

Foster homes offer dogs from animal shelters or from foreign animal protection a home as a transitional phase. There, the animals can recover and gain new experiences before they are placed with their forever families.

Requirements:

  • Experience with dogs

  • Sufficient time to look after the foster dog

  • Written permission from the employer to bring the dog to work

  • Sufficient financial means to cover the cost of dog food. Any costs for the vet will be covered by Dog Rescue

  • Keep a maximum of four dogs of your own.
Anyone keeping more than 5 dogs needs to be trained as an animal keeper or have an FBA

  • Valid personal liability insurance

  • Written permission from the landlord that dog ownership is permitted

  • Receive interested adopters to show them the foster dog and provide information about its nature

Your tasks:

The foster homes carry out important preparatory work with the animal welfare dogs, who may have had little contact with them and have uncertainties.

Experienced foster homes can take intensive care of each dog and better understand its needs, behavior and state of health. They can give the dog the time and care it needs and take their time to get to know it. They can also introduce the dog to new situations in a targeted manner and get to know specific behaviors that the dog exhibits.

In addition, foster homes usually teach their fosterlings basic rules for living together and start training them.
